Get out and enjoy the beautiful rivers!
Most of the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord rivers are classified as flatwater/quietwater, perfect for families and all levels of boating and fishing. There are some Class I/II rapids in Maynard that can provide a challenge for beginner whitewater boaters. The Concord River in Lowell has three Class III/IV rapids, with whitewater rafting trips available in the spring. Put-ins are located throughout the watershed and are shown on the river recreation maps, which can help you find the best ways to navigate the rivers safely.
Visit the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord rivers’ online recreation maps that show river and shoreline recreation information, including access points, walking trails and rail trails, parking, and suggested itineraries for paddling trips. Look for OARS’ printed maps in local libraries, town offices, outdoor stores, and at the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. Also available by emailing OARS. Enjoy events at the annual RiverFest in June!
