How healthy is your Long Island Sound?

There is a gradient in water quality from the Western Narrows to the Eastern Long Island Sound.

The Western Narrows is affected by the highly populated suburban-urban communities surrounding New York City, and received a very poor grade.

Further east, the water quality improves, as pollution is diluted by increased water exchange with the Atlantic Ocean.
