In Fort Wayne, Indiana, the St. Marys and St. Joseph rivers come together to form the Maumee River, which flows 137 miles (220 km) through Indiana and Ohio to empty into the western basin of Lake Erie. The watershed of the Upper Maumee is located in Allen and DeKalb counties in Indiana and Defiance and Paulding counties in Ohio, encompassing 387 mi2/1,002 km2 of land. The population of the watershed is about 115,000 people. Over 75% of the watershed is devoted to agricultural uses, including row crops and pasture land.*
