Sandusky Bay is unique within the western Lake Erie basin because it is somewhat isolated from the rest of the lake and very shallow (~12 feet deep). This shallowness leads to water mixing driven by currents and the wind. The bay is bordered by wetlands in many places, and the Sandusky River empties into its western end. Cedar Point amusement park sits at the eastern end of Sandusky Bay. The bay, the park, and the surrounding area comprise the "Vacationland" region of Ohio.
