The Lower Eastern Shore stretches from Fishing Bay in Dorchester County, Maryland, to Accomack and Northampton Counties in Virginia, and inland as far as Sussex County in Delaware. This region includes the Nanticoke, Wicomico, Manokin, and Big Annemessex Rivers as well as Pocomoke Sound, draining a combined 2,200 square miles of land. The Wicomico River watershed is dominated by agricultural (27%) and wetland (25%) land cover. In the Nanticoke River watershed, over 20% of the land is protected by the Nature Conservancy and its partners. The Lower Eastern Shore region includes the towns of Salisbury and Snow Hill in Maryland and Laurel and Seaford in Delaware. (Based on Wicomico Environmental Trust and the Nature Conservancy.)
