The Upper Western Shore region of the bay is comprised of two small inlets, the Bush River and the Gunpowder River, which enter the Bay north of Baltimore but south of the Susquehanna. Both rivers are mostly tidal and therefore brackish. The Gunpowder River is home to Maryland’s largest state park, Gunpowder Falls State Park, which includes the Big and Little Gunpowder Falls. This area is very popular for recreational activities including hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. (Based on Maryland Department of Natural Resources.)
