The largest river on the Eastern Shore, the Choptank, flows for 68 miles from Delaware to the Chesapeake Bay in Talbot County. The Choptank has historically been highly valued for its use as a transport waterway as well as its abundant fisheries. Striped bass and river herring spawn in the Choptank, and the area has also been known for its oyster reefs. (Based on NOAA Habitat Blueprint and ShoreRivers.)
