Bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) are an iconic species not only in the Willamette River system but across the United States. Once an endangered species, bald eagles are listed as a species of least concern by the Endangered Species Act and their population is rising throughout the U.S. as well as in the Willamette River Basin. Bald eagles have almost tripled in numbers in the southern portion of the Willamette Valley in the past nine years.
This indicator measures the number of bald eagles active during breeding season.
