Habitat Connectivity

The Conservation Assessment and Prioritization System (CAPS) Connectedness analysis measures the disruption of habitat connection caused by all forms of development, the “resistance” of the surrounding undeveloped landscape, as well as the similarity of surroundings. A terrestrial or aquatic organism in a highly connected area should be able to reach ecologically similar areas with minimal crossing of “hostile” areas. This indicator is based on the whole watershed area of each river segment.
